December 2016

School is out for winter break and finals are over. It’s also the start to the holiday season. There’s so much joy and cheer in the air. No more stress, for now. Listen to our monthly playlist above or here x! Enjoy.

Ultralight Beam // Local Natives

Local Natives deliver a their soothing cover of “Ultralight Beam.” This rendition is relaxing and delivers the same energy song in calming tone. The killer harmonies throughout the song stand out!

On Hold // The xx

After a long hiatus, The xx are back with a new single and the announcement of their third album, I See You. “On Hold,” is a simplistic and showcase their growth as a band.

Redbone // Childish Gambino

“Awaken, My Love,” has surprised many Childish Gambino fans because he delivered an out of character album that proved he can do anything. Throughout the album he shows various vocal chords, but “Redbone” puts it on another level. I thought his was voice had some sort of synth on it, but on Jimmy Fallon he showed off his voice and I was blown away.

Miserable America // Kevin Abstract

Off of Kevin Abstract’s sophomore album, American Boyfriend, “Miserable America” is the standout track. It’s bold and sheds lights on the issues being talked about today. The last 28 seconds of the song breaks down so evenly with the his vocals.

Sidewalks // The Weeknd Feat. Kendrick Lamar

This groovy tune by the The Weeknd goes hard. the guitars and production on this song bring Abel’s vocals to life. Plus, the addition of Kendrick Lamar transition is effortless.

Baptized in the Fire // Kid Cudi Feat. Travis Scott

Kid Cudi delivers his latest album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’. In “Baptized in the Fire” has a creepy yet memorizing mood that captures the listener. It’s slow but conveys rhythms and Cudi’s vocals are appreciated throughout the song.

Foldin Clothes // J Cole

J Cole dropped, 4 Your Eyez Only and it delivered a new sound that people aren’t used to. In “Foldin Clothes,” he’s expressing how he would help his partner in any way possible. The chorus made me more interested in the song with the jazzy guitar chords. The chords and additional vocals are provided by Steve Lacy from The Internet, which fit perfectly.

Last Snowstorm of the Year // Hippo Campus

Hippo Campus covered Low’s song, “Last Snowstorm of the Year” for the holidays. The song is cinematic all the way through. It’s very mellow at first but it then progresses into “magnificent” movie with the help of drums and additional guitars. A great cover to get you in the winter spirit.

Christmas Time Is Here // Vince Guaraldi Trio

This song is so simple and happens to my absolute favorite. It automatically puts a smile on my face no matter when or where I hear it. Happy Holidays on behalf of everyone here at TM.
